MICHAEL VAN GERWEN remains confident of winning a third William Hill World Darts Championship title despite admitting 2018 has not been his best year.

The world number one has outperformed his rivals, winning 19 PDC titles over the course of the season but has surrendered some major crowns, including the World Matchplay and the World Championship itself.

The Dutchman, who was defeated by eventual winner Rob Cross at Alexandra Palace in January, is determined to regain the prestigious title – and become the first winner of the record £500,000 first prize.

The William Hill World Darts Championship will be broadcast through the dedicated Sky Sports Darts channel, which will also feature exclusive documentaries and classic footage alongside the Ultra HD coverage of the tournament, which begins on Thursday 13 December.
