MICHAEL VAN GERWEN heads to Vienna this weekend in the hunt for a fourth successive World Series of Darts Finals triumph.
The world number one has won the title every year since the tournament’s inaugural staging in 2015.
The Dutch star will begin his bid to extend his perfect record against either Maik Langendorf or Damon Heta at Multiversum Schwechat on Saturday evening.
Van Gerwen, who won this year’s Auckland Darts Masters, enters in the second round as a seeded player.
“It is always important to me to bounce back from disappointment,” said Van Gerwen, who lost in the second round of last weekend’s European Championship.
“When you are always winning it can feel easier to keep on winning but after a bad tournament, and any tournament I don’t win is a bad one for me, then it shows strength to come back and win.
“I have done that many time and I know that I am still the man to beat and so does everybody else.
“The World Series would be a nice one to win because there were different winners in all of the events so to win the finals would make someone clearly come out on top.
“I am focused, determined and confident that it will be me and I am looking forward to enjoying a successful weekend in Vienna.”
The £250,000 tournament begins on Friday November 2 with the first round, with the seeded stars entering the action in Saturday night’s second round.
Sunday’s decisive final day sees the quarter-finals in the afternoon session and the semi-finals and final in the evening session.
The tournament will be broadcast live on ITV4 and through the PDC’s worldwide broadcast partners, as well as through PDCTV-HD for Rest of the World Subscribers.
