MICHAEL VAN GERWEN was honoured twice at the PDC Annual Awards Dinner, where the three-time World Champion was crowned Player of the Year at The Dorchester, London, on Monday.
Van Gerwen enjoyed a successful 2019, picking up 19 titles before being crowned as World Champion on New Year’s Day.
The 29-year-old’s impressive trophy haul for the year also included a third consecutive Premier League title, victory at the Masters, World Grand Prix and World Cup of Darts.
The Dutch ace was also rewarded for his consistent success away from the TV cameras with the ProTour Player of the Year award.
“To win these two awards is a phenomenal achievement, along with winning my third World Championship a few weeks ago,” said Van Gerwen.
“Other players are getting better and better every week so I have to be at my best all the time. I love playing darts and I’m going to come back even stronger next year.
“Darts is growing bigger and bigger and is being watched by more and more people around the world, so it’s amazing to be World Champion and win this award as the sport continues to grow.”
Van Gerwen will be back in action on the 1-3 February as he bids to defend his Masters title.
