Van Gerwen Eyes Champions League Glory

MVG wants to complete his TV title collection in Cardiff

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN hopes to clinch glory at the Champions League of Darts in Cardiff this weekend so he can ‘tick it off the list.’

The world number one has won every major televised title over a five-year spell of darting domination but was denied victory in last year’s inaugural Champions League event by 16-time World Champion Phil Taylor.

The Dutch ace is in sublime form once more, having won back-to-back European Tour titles after taking a month off as he became a father in August.

And Van Gerwen is determined to continue his unbeaten run when he competes in the BBC-televised event this weekend.

He said: “It would be a nice one to tick off the list. It’s a new tournament and Phil won it last year, but I hope they are ready for me this year!

“Everything I want to compete in I want to win but it doesn’t always work that way. It’s going quite well at the moment.”
