MICHAEL VAN GERWEN missed out on a fourth Grand Slam of Darts success as Gerwyn Price successfully defended the title in Wolverhampton.
Price won a classic semi-final contest against world number one van Gerwen, before going on to crush Peter Wright in the final.
Van Gerwen, who went down 16-12 to the Welshman, praised his opponent for the achievement.
“I’m gutted and it hurts to lose because nothing less than winning the title is good enough for me,” admitted the World Champion.
“I can only give credit to Gerwyn though. I gave him too many chances but he had to take them and he did and his performance in the final was phenomenal.”
