MICHAEL VAN GERWEN eased into the last 16 of the Grand Slam of Darts with a hat-trick of 5-2 victories to see him top Group A in Wolverhampton.
The world number one defeated Jim Williams, Adrian Lewis and Ross Smith by a three-leg margin – saving his best performance for his final round robin match against Smith, in which the Dutch ace averaged over 111.
“I’m really happy with how it’s gone,” said van Gerwen.
“I have not been feeling one-hundred-percent here but I have played well and have had a very good group stage.”
Van Gerwen will take on Ian White in the last 16 on Thursday.
