MICHAEL VAN GERWEN claimed his 16th career European Tour title at the European Darts Open in Hamburg.
The world number one defeated Mensur Suljovic in a repeat if last year’s European Championship final to clinch his second Euro Tour crown of 2017.
Having seen off Scotland’s John Henderson on Saturday, The Dutchman won four games on Sunday to pocket the £25,000 first prize.
He defeated Mervyn King, Peter Hudson and Michael Smith before triumphing 6-3 in the the decider.
“To win tournaments like this takes a lot of energy, and I am really pleased I have managed to do it again,” said Van Gerwen.
“I come here to win, I am the huge favourite entering these tournaments and second will not do. I’ve won, and that makes me a very happy man.
“I want to win as many tournaments as possible. It was a great game, and I am sure everyone in here enjoyed themselves. I’m a very proud man.”
