Premier League: van Gerwen Double Keeps Race For Top Spot Alive

Michael van Gerwen picked up two wins in Bournemouth on Thursday evening as he all but secured a place in the Premier League Darts Play-offs and kept up the pressure on league leader Phil Taylor.

van Gerwen claimed a 7-2 triumph against Peter Wright and a 7-5 success against Adrain Lewis to take maximum points from his double-header.

With just three fixtures remaining, the world number one’s showdown with Taylor in Rotterdam on the final night of league action is looking likely to decide which of the great rivals top the table and scoop the £25,000 bonus prize.

“Getting the four points was the most important thing and I’m really pleased with that but I wanted to play better,” said van Gerwen. “I did my job and I knew that the game against Adrian was very important and maybe I was trying too hard, so need to relax.

“I’ve worked really hard but it’s not finished yet and I’ll look forward to next week and prepare for James Wade. I feel fantastic and I’ll play better next week.

“I want to win everything and I don’t like losing, so I’m doing everything I can to finish at the top of the table and I won’t give up on that.”
