Grand Slam of Darts: van Gerwen Denied as Lewis Wins Thriller

Michael van Gerwen missed out on a place in the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam of Darts after losing out in a thrilling clash against an in-form Adrian Lewis.

van Gerwen lost 10-8 in a nail-biting encounter, in which Lewis hit 12 180s and averaged over 105.

‘Mighty Mike’ looked to have gained control when he broke with an 11-dart-leg to lead 5-3 but Lewis responded magnificently with a run of four straight legs.

van Gerwen was unable to level but pushed the two-time World Champion close before ‘Jackpot’ sealed the win with a 14-darter.

The Dutchman will now turn his attentions to the remaining Players Championship events, including the finals, before the World Championship gets underway on December 14.
