Michael van Gerwen coasted in to the final of the Grand Slam of Darts with another dominating display in defeating Michael Smith on Sunday afternoon.
The world number one kept up his astonishing record of reaching every major final since the World Championship back in January with a brilliant 16-6 success.
‘Mighty Mike’, who averaged over 102 in his latest triumph, will take on Phil Taylor or Raymond van Barneveld on Sunday evening as he bids to win the Wolverhampton title for the first time.
van Gerwen took out 68 to take the first leg before three breaks in a row saw him lead 3-1.
His third 180 helped him move three legs clear and he added two more in the next session, which he won 4-1 with the aid of a 111 finish to increase his lead to 8-2.
Smith took the following two legs, including a 119 checkout on the bull but van Gerwen responded by hitting his sixth maximum and double 18 to move 9-4 in front.
He then produced a brilliant 147 finish to break and another 180, followed by a 75 finish, moved him seven legs clear.
Smith took the next but van Gerwen took out 104 in a run of three straight legs to increase his lead to 14-5.
‘Bully Boy’ pulled a leg back but that was to be his last leg as van Gerwen completed the victory with a sensational 170 checkout.
