Glory in Gibraltar for van Gerwen

Michael van Gerwen’s sensational season continued as he won the Gibraltar Darts Open on Sunday.

The world number one defeated Terry Jenkins 6-3 in the final as he took his tournament title tally to seven in 2015.

The Dutch ace is now unbeaten in 27 matches in front of the cameras since surrendering his World Championship crown in January.

“I’m very happy to win another title,” said van Gerwen, who is also undefeated so far in the Premier League.

“I’m playing very well at the moment and winning trophies to go with it.

“It is also great to win two European events because nobody did that last year.

“It has been a great couple of months but I need to keep it going all year.”

van Gerwen missed double twelve for a nine-darter in his third round victory over Brian Woods before averaging 110 in a quarter-final success against Jelle Klaasen.

After seeing of Jamie Lewis in the semi-finals, van Gerwen again missed double twelve for a perfect leg as he stormed into a 4-1 lead against Jenkins.

He went on to take out 112 in the ninth and final leg as he added another trophy to his rapidly growing collection.
