The world number one defeated World Champion Gary Anderson in the final of the German Darts Championship and averaged almost 118 in an incredible 6-2 success.
van Gerwen had beaten Jelle Klaasen, Stephen Bunting, Joe Murnan and Mensur Suljovic on the way to his decisive showdown with Anderson.
And he saved his best performance for last as he stormed to victory with the aid of finishes of 151 and 167.
“I’m really happy with how the tournament went, and to win this trophy is brilliant for me,” said van Gerwen, who will face Anderson again on Thursday in the Premier League.
“I played really well and I had to against Gary.
“He showed why he is World Champion and when he’s on form you have to play like this if you’re going to beat him.”
The triumph saw van Gerwen clinch his third successive title and his fourth of the month, following victories at The Masters and two UK Open qualifiers.
