MICHAEL VAN GERWEN faced a shock a defeat at the hands of John Henderson in the first round of the World Grand Prix on Sunday evening in Dublin.
The world number one was bidding to defend his title and win the tournament for a fourth time but Scotland’s Henderson won a last-leg decider to end his chances.
“I’m obviously disappointed with how I played,” said Van Gerwen, the world number one.
“I want to say well done to John. He is a great guy and took his chances.”
Van Gerwen will next be in action at the final European Tour event of this year later this month.
