Michael van Gerwen added to his impressive title haul this year by winning Sunday’s Players Championship in Crawley.
van Gerwen fought back from 4-0 down to defeat Ian White 6-5 in the final, as he clinched his seventh tournament victory of 2012.
The Dutch ace, who recently won his first PDC major at the World Grand Prix in Dublin, also defeated Peter Hudson, Mark Jones, Peter Wright, Colin Lloyd and Dave Chisnall en route to his latest triumph.
“It’s amazing for me and it’s probably the most difficult Pro Tour event I’ve won,” van Gerwen told the PDC’s official website.
“I didn’t play that well at the beginning of the final and I struggled a bit but it was a very tough game for me.
“I’m very happy to get my sixth Pro Tour win of the year, and I was confident that I could make a comeback like that.
“This will give me even more confidence for the Grand Slam of Darts next week and I’m looking forward to Wolverhampton. I’m playing very well and I want to continue this.”
van Gerwen had also reached the semi-finals of Saturday’s Players Championship.
