MICHAEL VAN GERWEN has revealed his pride at being nominated for BBC Overseas Sports Personality of The Year following a brilliant 2017.
The Dutch ace, who began the year by winning the World Championship for the second time, has been named along side Tennis legend Roger Federer, American Football ace Tom Brady, Swimmer Katie Ledecky, Para-athlete Tatyana McFadden and Athletics star Sally Pearson.
“It is a very nice honour to be nominated for this award,” said world number one Van Gerwen.
“It is fantastic to be recognised in this way and to be name alongside some brilliant sport stars. It makes me feel very proud.”
2017 has also seen Van Gerwen win the Masters, Premier League, World Cup of Darts, Shanghai Darts Masters, U.S. Darts Masters, European Championship, World Series of Darts Finals and Grand Slam of Darts titles.
He has also become only the second player in history to achieve two nine-darters in one match, during a UK Open Qualifier in February.
