MICHAEL VAN GERWEN’s weekend double in Wigan saw the world number one rack up his 100th PDC singles title.
The Dutch sensation, 28, claimed victory in the first and second UK Open qualifiers of the year to become only the second player to reach the landmark.
“I am very proud of this record and I hope I can reach the next 100 just as fast,” said Van Gerwen.
“It is always nice to have records like this associated with my name and it was a special feeling to know that I had reached it.
“It doesn’t change anything though, I am still hungry for every title as if it would be my first so everyone better watch out.”
Van Gerwen’s unbeaten run in 2018 was ended by Michael Smith on Sunday but the two-time World Champions did produce a nine-darter en route to the quarter-finals.
