MICHAEL VAN GERWEN’s Unibet Premier League 180s have helped to raise over £14,000 for Make-A-Wish Foundation, after his pledge to donate money for every maximum he hit during his victorious 2018 campaign.
The world number one and Premier League champion landed 72 180s in the season and will donate £7200 – with the figure being matched by tournament sponsors Unibet.
The funds will be split equally between the UK and Dutch versions of the charity.
Make-A-Wish exists to grant magical wishes to enrich the lives of children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.
Van Gerwen, who boosted the total significantly by firing in 16 maximums on Finals Night, is delighted that his success will help Make-A-Wish.
He said: “I’m really happy with the total. It is a lot more 180s than the year before and I’m very happy to make this donation and grateful to Unibet for matching the amount.
“Make-A-Wish is a really special charity and I hope this money will really help with the great work they are doing.”
Van Gerwen is back in action at this weekend’s World Cup of Darts, where he and Netherlands teammate Raymond Van Barneveld will attempt to successfully defend the title.
