MICHAEL VAN GERWEN sealed a second European Tour title in as many weeks after defeating Peter Wright in the final of the German Darts Grand Prix in Munich on Easter Monday.
The world number one repeated his success from the first European Tour event of 2018 by beating the man directly below him in the world rankings in the decider to pocket another £25,000.
“Peter is a phenomenal player and he works so hard, it’s always a great game between us and I’m really glad to win this one,” said the two-time World Champion, who won 8-5.
“I’m really proud of myself. I didn’t play brilliant but I did enough to win.”
The victory saw Van Gerwen pick up his 22nd career European Tour title and his eight PDC tournament win of 2018.
The Dutch ace began his latest glory charge by edging out Steve Lennon 6-5 on Sunday, before dominant displays against Alan Norris, Keegan Brown and Daryl Gurney saw him set-up another showdown with Wright.
Van Gerwen returns to action in the Premier League on Thursday when he takes on Mensur Suljovic in Liverpool.
