MICHAEL VAN GERWEN eased through to the knockout stage of the bwin Grand Slam of Darts after a hat-trick of wins in Wolverhampton saw him top Group A.
Defending champion Van Gerwen defeated Ross Montgomery, Rob Cross and Joe Murnan to set up a second round match-up with Ireland’s Steve Lennon.
“I’m really pleased with how I have played so far,” said the world number one, who averaged over 108 in two of his group games.
“I’ve felt really good. Probably the best I’ve felt all year and I am very happy and confident in my game.”
Van Gerwen will take on Lennon on Thursday evening for a place in the quarter-finals.
