MICHAEL VAN GERWEN clinched his third consecutive Grand Slam of Darts title with two brilliant victories on Sunday in Wolverhampton.
The world number one thrashed Phil Taylor 16-8 before defeating Peter Wright in a closely fought final, winning 16-12.
Watched by his wife Daphne and, for the first time, daughter Zoe, the Dutch ace ended the tournament with an average of almost 105 and a double success rate of over fifty percent.
“It’s fantastic to win a tournament like this,” said Van Gerwen, who picks up £110,000 for the title.
“It has made me so happy to win in front of my family here. It is something really special.
“Peter gave me a great match in the final even though neither of us where really at our best
“I’m feeling good after winning another big title and I am looking forward to the rest of the year.”
Van Gerwen will return to action at the Players Championship Finals in Minehead next weekend.
