MICHAEL VAN GERWEN has presented with a medal to represent his new status as a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau in The Netherlands.

Michael Van Gerwen - Arna SchoemansIt was announced last week that Van Gerwen had been given the honour and he was handed his medal on Wednesday by the Major on behalf of King Willem-Alexander.

“It is a wonderful honour for me,” said Van Gerwen, the world number one darts player.

“It is something really special and something I didn’t expect so young. I am told I am the youngest to receive this award so I am really very proud.

“It is a great occasion from me and my family and I will always be very proud.”

The 29-year-old has dominated the world of darts for the last five years, winning over 100 PDC titles.
