MICHAEL VAN GERWEN has presented with a medal to represent his new status as a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau in The Netherlands.
It was announced last week that Van Gerwen had been given the honour and he was handed his medal on Wednesday by the Major on behalf of King Willem-Alexander.
“It is a wonderful honour for me,” said Van Gerwen, the world number one darts player.
“It is something really special and something I didn’t expect so young. I am told I am the youngest to receive this award so I am really very proud.
“It is a great occasion from me and my family and I will always be very proud.”
The 29-year-old has dominated the world of darts for the last five years, winning over 100 PDC titles.
