van Gerwen Grabs Glory in Crawley

Michael van Gerwen followed up last week’s World Grand Prix triumph by taking victory at Sunday’s Players Championship 18 in Crawley.

The world number one defeated James Wade in a repeat of the Dublin final to clinch the £10,000 first prize at the K2 Centre.

van Gerwen saw off Dutch compatriot Raymond van Barneveld, world number four Peter Wright, former World Youth Champion James Hubbard, Gerwyn Price, Jamie Caven and Jyhan Artut en route to the final.

There, he claimed a 6-2 success against Saturday’s winner Wade, sealing the win with a 122 finish.

World Champion van Gerwen will be back in action on Friday, when the European Championships begin. The Dutch ace faces Justin Pipe in round one of the tournament, which will be televised live on ITV4.
