MICHAEL VAN GERWEN defeated Daryl Gurney on a landmark night for the Unibet Premier League as a record-breaking 12,000 fans watched on in Berlin on Thursday evening.
The reigning champion enjoyed a 7-2 success against 2018 debutant Gurney as the Dutchman climbed to second place in the table.
World number one Van Gerwen averaged over 104 as he eased to victory – following up last week’s brilliant triumph over Gary Anderson with another win.
“I think I played okay and I did the right things at the right moments to get the two points,” said the world number one.
“I didn’t make a lot of mistakes and my confidence is good at the moment.
“This was amazing tonight and darts is getting bigger and better all over the world. I love what I do and that’s very important, and this was a special night.”
Van Gerwen takes on Mensur Suljovic on night five in Exeter.
