MICHAEL VAN GERWEN wants to continue to ‘show who is the boss’ when the World Series of Darts visits Australia over the next couple of weeks.
The world number one bounced back from World Matchplay disappointment – following a shock first round defeat in Blackpool last month – by winning the Auckland Darts Masters in New Zealand last weekend.
The Dutchman was in a ruthless mood as he successfully saw off the likes of World Matchplay winner Gary Anderson, world number two Peter Wright and five-time World Champion Raymond Van Barneveld on the road to glory.
Van Gerwen believes that there is no reason he cannot not return with all three titles from the PDC’s annual trip ‘Down Under’ and is in a typically confident mood ahead of this weekend’s Melbourne Darts Masters.
“The thing that gives me confidence is winning so everyone needs to watch out,” said Van Gerwen.
“I was hurt after the World Matchplay but I also know from my experience that the only way to move on from defeat is to win.
“Winning then gives me more confidence and, even though I have nothing to prove, makes me even stronger.
“I go to every tournament expecting myself to win and I feel confident of doing that in Melbourne and Brisbane.
“It was nice to show that I’m still the boss last week and I want to keep doing that.”
