MICHAEL VAN GERWEN proved unbeatable in Barnsley as he completed a clean sweep of the Players Championship treble-header at the Metrodome.

The sensational world number one won finals against Mensur Suljovic, James Wilson and Steve West to extend his incredible winning streak to 35 matches, breaking his previous record.

The Dutch star also hit two nine-darters over the three days as he scooped £30,000 in prize money and continued his domination of darts in 2016.

van Gerwen’s win against West was his sixth consecutive tournament victory and he has reached the final of the last eleven tournaments he has played in, winning nine.

‘Mighty Mike’ will look to continue his fabulous run of form when he competes in the inaugural Champions League of Darts, which will be broadcast live on the BBC over the weekend.
