MICHAEL VAN GERWEN maintained his brilliant record of first place finishes in the Premier League after sealing top spot once again in 2017.
The world number one defeated Gary Anderson 7-4 in Aberdeen to finish the league stage of the season in first position for the fifth consecutive year.
In fact, Van Gerwen has managed to top the table in every season since his debut in 2013.
“It was really tough this year,” said the Dutchman. “Peter Wright was in my shadow all the way through and fair play to him but I came here for two points and I got them, so I’m really glad.
“I think my scoring was good but I still missed too many chances in my opinion – but I did the job I needed to tonight. It was really important for me and I’m happy with this win so I can look forward to next week at The O2.
“It’s the top four darts players in the world and I can’t wait. It’s always a good game against Gary and I feel good.”
Van Gerwen, who has never failed to reach the final, will take on Anderson again in the semi-finals as the Premier League Play-Offs provide the tournament’s finale on Thursday at London’s O2.
