Reigning Premier League champion Michael van Gerwen shared a draw with Adrian Lewis on night four of the 2017 Premier League in a thrilling battle in Brighton.
The Dutch ace opened with an 11-darter but saw Lewis take a 4-2 lead – and the world number one never led again until the penultimate leg, when he made sure he would earn at least a point.
Van Gerwen missed the chance to claim victory in style in the deciding leg, missing the bull for a 170 before Lewis, who had produced the maximum checkout earlier in the match, landed double 12 secure a draw.
“I didn’t play too badly but I missed a few things here and there, and you’re not allowed to do that, especially against Adrian,” said Van Gerwen, who is unbeaten after four matches with two wins and two draws.
“I started off really well but I didn’t feel great today, I’ve had a bit of a cold and my focus wasn’t really there – but you have to do it with your arm and your head. At least I got a point and I can’t complain too much.
