MICHAEL VAN GERWEN 7 – 4 Dave Chisnall
The defending champion defeated Dave Chisnall 7-4 in an exciting encounter in Belfast, averaging over 103 in the process.
“I’m happy with how I played tonight and how things have gone so far,” said van Gerwen, the newly-crowned World Champion.
“I’m enjoying this Premier League again and I’ve made a better start that last year. I’m being very consistent and I’m already looking forward to next week.
“Now my job is to keep focused and keep this going. My confidence is high and I’ sure I can maintain my good form.”
Chisnall kicked off the match with a 180 and went on to take the first leg in eleven darts but van Gerwen responded with his first 180, before bedding tops to level up.
The Dutchman fired in another maximum and pinned double eight to break Chisnall’s throw.
He then moved two legs clear by pegging double five but ‘Chizzy’ won the next two to make it three legs apiece.
van Gerwen broke straight back though and then held his throw to go 5-3 up.
Chisnall landed double 18 to stay within touching distance of the world number one but van Gerwen hit a super score of 177 to leave 40 and earned at least a point by bedding double ten.
‘Mighty Mike’ then took out 93 to finish the job and up his points tally to six ahead of next week’s clash with Raymond van Barneveld.
