WORLD NUMBER ONE MICHAEL VAN GERWEN believes he is playing well enough to win to Grand Slam of Darts but intends to raise his game as the tournament nears its conclusion.
The dominant Dutchman defeated Robert Thornton 10-5 on Wednesday night to move into the last eight, where he will take on Brendan Dolan, who he faces on Friday.
“I felt comfortable and I played okay in patches, but Robert is a fighter and you know you have to take an extra step against him,” said van Gerwen, who is bidding to defend his title.
“I’m in great form and the next game is Brendan Dolan – he’s a good player who I played in the group and I hope I can beat him again. That’s the next target in this tournament.
“If I play like I did against Robert again, I think I can win but I feel I can improve in every game and that’s what I will try to do to make sure I am holding the trophy at the end.”
