MICHAEL VAN GERWEN stormed into the semi-finals of the Grand Slam of Darts with a 16-3 thrashing of Brendan Dolan in Wolverhampton on Friday.
The world number one remains on course to defend his title after another dominant victory, despite admittedly not performing near his best.
“It was a difficult game to perform really well because there was only really one player in the match,” said van Gerwen, who will take on Phil Taylor or Peter Wright in the last four on Sunday.
“Brendan said himself that he didn’t get into the match and I need a bit more of a closer game to bring out the best in me – but I’m sure that will happen in the semi-final.”
van Gerwen reeled off the first five legs without reply, including finishes of 104 and 121.
When Dolan finally managed to get a leg on the board, the Dutchman took the next eight on the spin to lead 13-1.
His opponent took the following two legs but van Gerwen ran out an extremely comfortable 16-3 winner.
